In June 2009, Universe Today wrote:
Asteroid mining is purely conceptual at this time, but there are valuable minerals to be harvested out there. In addition to iron and nickel there is thought to be gold an platinum in some asteroids. [...] In the future, miners will be asteroid mining.
Today, the future has arrived. Planetary Resources, Inc. hosted a press conference on April 24, 2012, announcing their plans to start looking for suitable asteroids for their mining operation in the next 18-24 months. Watch the press conference below.
